Fast condensed prototype-based domain description

Algorithms AIMech:FastCondensedPrototypeBasedDomainDescription DRAFT
Aliases: FastCPDD, FCPDD
A heuristic for selecting PDD prototypes that samples remaining reference observations, computes their radius offsets against the full dataset, accumulates eligible candidates, and greedily selects them by uncovered-reference gain with an adaptive sampling schedule.
Identity Notes & Concept Scope FastCPDD, also called FCPDD, is the sampled candidate-selection variant introduced in Section 5 of Angiulli's PDD paper. It is distinct from full-candidate CPDD and the PDD prediction rule. The conceptual sampling and selection policy is supported; the printed pseudocode has unresolved boundary conventions, and its stated exhaustion modification does not by itself establish the claimed consistency guarantee. Compared all 442 pinned AIO IDs, labels and scoped synonyms with all 508 preceding native IDs, names and aliases. No normalized candidate identity collision was found. Fixed-string whole-word searches included ignored and hidden files in both checkouts, candidate aliases, acronyms and source identifiers. All 103 matched lines per checkout, 61 distinct texts at 206 locations, were inspected: these are the preceding NNDD record and its generated pages, provenance, discovery and review context, including explicit pending CPDD/FastCPDD leads. The 85 semantic AIO rows and 65 preceding native identity matches were unchanged from their fully read prior search; the two new native neighbors were fully read. Twelve annotated AIO nodes and outgoing edges were read; twenty-three contextual YAMLs were reused after unchanged-byte checks. Absence is bounded to this pin and corpus, and wider identity-field matches are not full scientific reviews.

Claims & Grounded Evidence

5 Claims
Mechanism #sampled-candidate-selection
Maintain selected prototype pairs S, covered reference points C, eligible candidate pool E and remaining sampling pool Dprime. Draw T from Dprime, compute each sampled point's kth self-included neighbor distance against full D, retain sampled candidates P with r_i<=theta, and form their neighborhoods using d(x_i,y)+r_i<=rho*theta. Add P to E. Greedily select from E by largest residual neighborhood gain, breaking ties by smaller radius, and insert while gain>(1-eta)*k. The inner loop ends when the chosen candidate belongs to the current P or fails the gain test; older candidates can be inserted first. Remove T union C from Dprime after the iteration. Stored radii are unchanged at prediction.
Mechanism #adaptive-sampling-and-stopping
Initialize sigma=1, count=k+1 and countstar=0. The nominal sample size is ((1-a)*sigma+a)*s, with a=0.1 in the source. After selecting candidates, count is the last residual gain, countstar is the maximum gain seen, and sigma is updated to log(count)/log(countstar). The default outer loop continues while count>(1-eta)*k. Here eta controls marginal gain, not CPDD's total covered fraction. A low-gain sample does not prove that no useful unsampled candidate remains; the source acknowledges that default stopping is heuristic.
Limitation #exhaustion-theorem-counterexample
Theorem 5.1 proposes eta=1 and changing the outer guard to Dprime nonempty as a consistency condition. A curator trace of the printed flow disproves sufficiency of that change alone: let D={0,1/10,10,101/10}, k=1, theta=1/5, rho=eta=1 and s=4. The first sample T=D has zero radii and two disconnected two-point neighborhoods. Selecting any current-sample candidate covers only one pair; the inner loop then ends. Removing T union C empties Dprime, so the modified guard exits while two originally accepted points remain uncovered. Gain=count=countstar=2 makes the log update defined, so this failure is independent of log singularities. The trace does not certify how any historical implementation behaved.
Limitation #implementation-and-complexity-limits
The printed description leaves sample-size rounding or clipping, empty candidate maxima, exhausted sampling pools and log-zero or log-one updates unresolved. Isolated k=1 neighborhoods can give count=countstar=1, making the stated update 0/0. If M distinct observations are sampled without replacement from the remaining pool, computing their distances to full D requires M*|D|<=|D|^2 distance evaluations; this permits quadratic worst-case work and does not establish subquadratic total runtime. The baseline CPDD set-cover approximation is not transferred to this heuristic.
Limitation #probability-and-experiment-scope
The sample-hit analysis assumes a very large dataset with kth-neighbor radii approximated near zero and a specified population density. Its region-hit probability does not establish distribution-free selection of an optimal prototype. Reported synthetic and UCI comparisons are conditional on sample size, k, thresholds, metrics, hardware and chosen classes; they do not establish exact agreement with CPDD or universal compression, speed or accuracy gains. No numerical performance advantage is curated.

related_match The PDD accept-versus-reject task, including detectors constructed by CPDD or FastCPDD, is related to AIO:BinaryClassification. This is an algorithm-to-task association, not equivalence or subclass membership. The target has Classification and SupervisedLearning ancestry, but the link does not assert representative abnormal-class training data. Inspected Classification, BinaryClassification, SupervisedLearning, UnsupervisedLearning, MachineLearningTask, all three KnearestNeighbor nodes, DimensionalityReduction, Distillation, DataPreparation and SelectionAndSamplingBias with annotations and outgoing edges. Neighbor voting or value averaging is distinct from radius-offset decisions; condensation does not reduce feature dimensions or assert a bias condition. Generic preparation and teacher-student distillation do not identify these covering procedures. Eleven native contexts distinguish NNDD distance norms, CNNDD reference selection, local distance ratios, bootstrap variability, density clustering, supervised metric learning, sphere support estimation and medoid optimization.
