Hidden Markov model with auxiliary memory

Model Families AIMech:HiddenMarkovModelWithAuxiliaryMemory DRAFT
Aliases: Auxiliary-memory context-sensitive hidden Markov model
A hidden-state symbol-sequence model family in which paired states write emitted symbols to auxiliary memory and later read them to condition emissions and memory-dependent state transitions.
Identity Notes & Concept Scope This is the Yoon–Vaidyanathan auxiliary-memory construction called context-sensitive HMM in the source. It includes stack and queue choices, with separate finite control states and memory contents. It is distinct from phonetic context-dependent HMMs, Saul–Jordan hidden-state contextual emissions, neural memory cells and language-model memory augmentation. The bare names context-sensitive HMM and csHMM are ambiguous and are not asserted as aliases. The nested-pairing alignment/scoring algorithms are restricted procedures for this family, not a definition of every memory configuration. No normalized identity match was found across all442 pinned AIO labels and scoped synonyms and385 preceding native IDs/names/aliases for the four researched candidates. Full-checkout fixed-string searches included ignored and hidden files in both worktree and main, yielding78 and83 matched lines; all44 unique contents were read. Hits concern prior source citations, pending leads, neighboring HME records and unrelated Python-license authors, not existing records of the three selected identities. All76 semantic label/synonym hits and22 exact fully annotated AIO CLASS nodes with outgoing edges were read. Twenty-five contextual YAMLs were byte-verified after prior full reading and eight freshly read, totaling22 generated and11 native neighbors. Adaptive local experts substantially overlaps represented MDN/HME scope and receives no duplicate ID. Bare context-sensitive HMM and csHMM are searched homonyms, not unconditional aliases. Absence is bounded to the pin and inspected semantic neighborhood.

Claims & Grounded Evidence

Mechanism #method
The basic model has silent start/end states, ordinary single-emission states S, and paired states P_n and C_n sharing a dedicated memory Z_n. On visiting P_n, emit a symbol from its state distribution and store that symbol in Z_n. On visiting C_n, retrieve and remove a symbol from Z_n, then emit according to a distribution conditioned on the retrieved symbol. After this emission, choose the C_n transition distribution according to whether its memory is empty. The source uses disjoint empty-memory and nonempty-memory destination sets, each with its own normalized row; only the row valid for the current memory is active. A completed valid path starts with empty memories, avoids reads from empty memory and balances each pair’s writes and reads. Ordinary and storage-state transitions do not depend on context in the basic formulation. A last-in-first-out stack with deterministic matching emissions can reproduce a prefix in reverse order; a first-in-first-out queue can reproduce it in the same order. Hidden control paths and their induced memory histories determine the probability of a symbol string, which requires summing over valid paths.

Artificial Intelligence Ontology (AIO) Grounding

Mapped AIO Classes
AIO Target Class Mapping Relation Mapping Rationale
AIO:MarkovChain
Markov Chain
related_match The model extends Markov hidden-state sequencing with memory-dependent emissions and transitions. A Markov description requires the effective state to include auxiliary memory; the finite control state or observed string alone is not the pinned first-order process.
AIO:ProbabilisticGraphicalModel
Probabilistic Graphical Model
related_match The source models structured latent variables and conditional dependencies to infer hidden symbol pairings. The AIO target is a graphical-model task, so this is a model-to-modeling-context association rather than a task superclass. No neural or large-language-model identity is inferred from the word memory.
