Poisson generalized root model
Model Families AIMech:PoissonGeneralizedRootModel DRAFT
Aliases: Poisson GRM
A generalized root probability model on unbounded nonnegative integer counts, with factorial base measures and symmetric products of j-th roots involving at most j distinct variables, normalizable for every finite parameter tensor on a finite variable set.
Identity Notes & Concept Scope
Poisson GRM is the count-base specialization of generalized root models and extends Poisson SQR beyond pairwise terms. It retains counting measure and factorial weights. It is not the classical auto-Poisson field, finite-support truncated Poisson model, factorial-free quadratic Poisson model or bounded-statistic sublinear Poisson model. It also differs from a latent topic model: the defining interactions are explicit functions of observed counts. No normalized identity match was found across all 442 pinned AIO labels and all scoped synonyms and 412 preceding native IDs, names and aliases. Full-checkout fixed-string searches included ignored and hidden files in worktree and main, yielding four and zero matched lines; all three unique contents were read and refer to the prior GRM frontier or publication URL, not existing records. Search preparation occurred before the preceding SQR merge; those three inspected record bytes are unchanged. The provisional bare GRM acronym was checked in normalized identities but omitted from broad text searches; because web results expose unrelated acronym meanings, it is not asserted as an alias. All 186 semantic label/synonym hits were read. Forty-six fully annotated exact CLASS nodes and outgoing edges were byte-verified against prior inspected nodes. Sixty-seven full contextual YAMLs comprise 46 generated and 21 native records: 64 were byte-verified after prior full reading and three SQR records were fully read again. Absence is bounded to the pinned snapshot, maintained corpus and inspected semantic neighborhood.

On x in nonnegative-integer p-space, use T(x)=x, B(x)=-log(x!) and ordinary nonnegative roots in the GRM tensor construction. The joint kernel is exp[sum_j sum_(ell<=j) <Psi_j^ell,(x^(1/j))^(tensor ell)>]/product_i x_i!, with finite real super-symmetric tensors zero on repeated indices. All finite tensor choices have a finite partition for finite p,k. For an ell-variable term, AM–GM gives product_(i in S) x_i^(1/j)<=(sum_(i in S) x_i/ell)^(ell/j)<=1+sum_(i in S) x_i because ell<=j. Bounding the finitely many coefficients in absolute value yields H(x)<=C+sum_i d_i*x_i; summing the product envelope gives Z<=exp(C+sum_i exp(d_i))<infinity. This direct curator derivation supports the source’s parameter-existence result without its radial measure argument. A site conditional has kernel exp[sum_j eta_js*t^(1/j)]/t!, t>=0, with eta_js given by the symmetric tensor-slice contractions. It is generally not ordinary Poisson when fractional-root terms are present. Only the linear unary terms remaining gives independent Poisson means exp(Psi_1^1[i]); k=2 reproduces Poisson SQR.
⚠️ Curated Limitations & Negative Results
- The all-finite-parameter result depends on factorial weights, finite dimension and finite maximum order. It does not justify dropping the factorials, using an infinite graph or taking unbounded parameter limits.
- The conditional normalizer is generally an infinite sum. Existence does not certify a numerical cutoff or make exp(eta_1s) its general conditional mean.
- Tensors are super-symmetric and zero on repeated indices. Full ordered-index contraction counts a distinct unordered ell-variable term ell! times; coefficients must be translated consistently when switching to once-counted clique notation. Separately fitted node regressions do not automatically agree on compatible joint tensors.
- The general family includes all 1<=ell<=j<=k terms. The paper’s strongest-interaction subfamily retains only ell=j and omits lower-degree terms; its experiments do not evaluate every member of the general family. Nonzero higher-order interactions do not require nonzero lower-order interactions.
- Base-family naming does not make all full conditionals or marginals ordinary Poisson or exponential laws. An interaction coefficient is not a universal marginal-correlation or causal-effect measure.
- For T=x, the printed radial expression omits the z^(p-1) Jacobian needed for a continuous L1-radius law under x=z*v. A bounded directional domain also does not alone establish integrability from pointwise finite ray integrals. Count directions require their own discrete measure. Direct joint domination is used for the Poisson and strict exponential regimes.
- The numerical section requires qualification: after Equation (15), E[x^a] must use exp(M(a)-M(0)), not the printed subtraction of M(1). The first row of Equation (14) requires exponent 1/j+1 for covariance with x, not the printed 1/j+1/2. Linear bounds must retain the base log measure B; inclusive count-interval probabilities need F(b)-F(a-1), and zero atoms need explicit handling. These are curator checks of displayed expressions, not a reproduced implementation defect or an author-issued correction.
- Nodewise l1 fitting, approximate conditional normalizers and Newton-like updates are estimation procedures separate from the model definition. A fixed number of approximation intervals gives no universal accuracy guarantee. No author code, empirical fit, optimizer benchmark or graph-recovery experiment was reproduced.
- The reported k=3 Poisson word-count examples rank weighted tuples from Classic3 abstracts and sampled Grolier articles. They are qualitative context, not evidence of held-out prediction, causal discovery or universal graph recovery. The proposed low-rank and staged parameter reductions are not established evaluated variants in this source.
