Acidic Nitrification Minimal Consortium

A minimal aerobic ammonia-oxidizing consortium from three acidic nitrification bioreactors operated between pH 2.0 and 5.0. Genome-resolved meta-omics and chemical measurements linked the pH 5.0 cultures to a novel Nitrosococcaceae ammonia-oxidizing bacterium, "Candidatus Nitrosoglobus kelleri", that reached up to 56% relative abundance and linked the strongly simplified pH 2.0 community to "Ca. Nitrosoglobus kelleri" together with Mycobacterium species.

Ecological Interactions

The graph shows only explicitly linked interaction participants. Community members without an asserted participant link are omitted; membership alone does not imply an interaction.

Putative acidic carbon and nitrogen cycling linkage

Genome-resolved and transcriptional evidence suggested potential metabolic linkages between "Ca. Nitrosoglobus kelleri" and Mycobacterium species in the simplified pH 2.0 bioreactor community, with the abstract bounding those linkages to carbon and nitrogen compound cycling rather than resolving exact transferred compounds.

Participating Taxa: "Candidatus Nitrosoglobus kelleri", Mycobacterium species

Knowledge gaps & discussions (1)

KNOWLEDGE_GAP OPEN Resolve the exact bioreactor feed medium, reactor dimensions, operating schedule, inoculum source, MAG identifiers, and pH-specific abundance table for the acidic nitrification minimal consortium.

The cached PubMed abstract identifies the three pH 2.0-5.0 acidic nitrification bioreactors, the dominant novel Nitrosococcaceae AOB, Mycobacterium as a dominant pH 2.0 partner, and putative carbon/nitrogen cycling linkages, but it does not report the exact medium, inoculum, individual MAG accessions, reactor hardware, or the pH-specific abundance matrix needed for a more exact curation.
