Auxenochlorella-Pseudomonas Florfenicol Phycosphere Coculture

A defined freshwater green-alga and bacterium co-culture pairing axenic Auxenochlorella pyrenoidosa with Pseudomonas_sp1, a phycospheric isolate recovered after high-florfenicol and polylactic acid microplastic stress. Liu et al. isolated Pseudomonas_sp1 from the stressed phycosphere and used the isolate in short co-culture validation experiments showing promoted A. pyrenoidosa growth and Pseudomonas-associated pyridoxal production under florfenicol stress.

Pseudomonas Pyridoxal Support Under Florfenicol Stress

CROSS_FEEDING

PARTIAL - Pseudomonas_sp1 promoted A. pyrenoidosa growth during the 13-day florfenicol-stress co-culture, and pyridoxal was detected with the bacterium. Exogenous vitamin B6 also promoted axenic algal growth, supporting pyridoxal as a candidate mediator. These experiments establish association and supplementation sufficiency, not necessity of bacterial pyridoxal or traced transfer.

Knowledge gaps & discussions (2)

KNOWLEDGE_GAP OPEN The article body states that Text S12 contains details of the Pseudomonas_sp1 and A. pyrenoidosa co-culture experiment; those supplementary details should be inspected to recover the exact medium, inoculum, volume, and exposure groups for the pairwise assay.

The main article cleanly establishes Pseudomonas_sp1 as the selected partner and reports the 13-day response, but it points cultivation details for that follow-up pairwise assay to Text S12.

Text S12. The co-culture experiment of phycospheric isolates and A. pyrenoidosa

Shows that exact follow-up co-culture details were placed in the supplement rather than the article body.

KNOWLEDGE_GAP OPEN Is bacterial pyridoxal necessary for the algal benefit, and is its transfer directly measurable?

PMID:41724996 supports the defined-pair growth response and vitamin supplementation. Removing pyridoxal production or blocking algal uptake would distinguish mediation from correlated metabolite accumulation. The existing Text S12 medium gap remains; Text S12-S14 were not reviewed. No antibiotic-degradation or reciprocal-fitness claim is added.
