Black-Soil Glucose-Activated Herbicide-Mixture Degrading Synthetic Community

Simplified four-isolate bacterial synthetic community (SynCom) constructed from keystone taxa—Burkholderia-Caballeronia-Paraburkholderia complex, Rhodanobacter, and Achromobacter—identified in a natural microbial consortium enriched from herbicide-stressed agricultural black soil in Northeast China. Activated by glucose supplementation that fuels glycolytic and TCA cycle energy supply and environmental acidification, the SynCom co-metabolically degrades a recalcitrant mixture of nicosulfuron (97.27%), mesotrione (68.00%), and atrazine (22.91%) via enriched catabolic genes including atzF (allophanate hydrolase) and gst (glutathione S-transferase).

Ecological Interactions

The graph shows only explicitly linked interaction participants. Community members without an asserted participant link are omitted; membership alone does not imply an interaction.

Glucose-Activated Central Carbon Metabolism and Environmental Acidification

SYNTROPHY

Glucose supplementation activates glycolytic and tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle central carbon metabolism in the black-soil consortium, enhancing cellular energy supply and environmental acidification required for co-metabolic herbicide degradation.

Participating Taxa: Burkholderia, Rhodanobacter, Achromobacter

Metabolites: glucose (CHEBI:17234 · MediaIngredientMech · CMMMech), atrazine (CHEBI:15930 · MediaIngredientMech · CMMMech)

Biological Processes:

Downstream Effects:
→ Keystone Degrader Enrichment of Allophanate Hydrolase (atzF) and Glutathione S-Transferase (gst)

DIRECTLY IMPLIED: Glucose-driven central carbon activation and community restructuring enrich keystone Burkholderia, Rhodanobacter, and Achromobacter degraders carrying atzF and gst herbicide-catabolic genes.
