A fifteen-member bacterial synthetic community constructed from drought-responsive core microbes of the desert shrub Caragana korshinskii and tested as a cross-host wheat drought-tolerance inoculant. Hao et al. combined four functional strains with eleven core microbial strains, assayed the full SynCom15 in potted plant experiments, and linked SynCom inoculation to wheat growth under drought, Pseudomonas-associated biofilm and quorum-sensing functions, and later streamlining into a biofilm-forming SynCom5.

Ecological Interactions
The graph shows only explicitly linked interaction participants. Community members without an asserted participant link are omitted; membership alone does not imply an interaction.
SynCom15 wheat drought growth promotion
The fifteen-member SynCom improved wheat growth under drought relative to uninoculated and single-member controls in non-sterile pot assays. This is not evidence of long-term field performance or the mechanism established for the separate five-member derivative.
Evidence
-
PMID:41634815 - SUPPORT (IN_VIVO)"inoculation with the complete SynCom15 consortium significantly enhanced wheat growth under drought stress compared to any single member"
Pseudomonas-Associated Metagenomic Biofilm and Quorum-Sensing Gene Enrichment
Rhizosphere metagenomic gene abundance assigned largely to Pseudomonas was associated with biofilm/quorum pathways and plant fresh weight. DNA abundance is not expression, pathway activity or strain-resolved transfer. SynCom5 AI-2, EPS, root-biofilm and host-response experiments cannot be assigned to SynCom15.
Evidence
-
PMID:41634815 - PARTIAL (COMPUTATIONAL)"biofilm formation and quorum sensing pathways were significantly positively correlated with plant fresh weight"
-
PMID:41634815 - PARTIAL (COMPUTATIONAL)"enriched genes were predominantly of Pseudomonas origin"

CURATION_TODO OPEN Should the streamlined five-member SynCom5 be curated as a separate strain-code record?
The article functionally validates SynCom5 and Fig. 6 labels its five CM codes, but the cached text does not enumerate those codes together. A separate record should wait for a text/OCR cache of the figure or an independent table that lists the SynCom5 members.

we subsequently designed a simplified five-strain SynCom (SynCom5) that synergistically enhances wheat drought tolerance via community biofilms
Supports the existence of a streamlined SynCom5 derived from SynCom15.
KNOWLEDGE_GAP OPEN Which functions of the fifteen-member inoculum mediate its drought-growth phenotype?
PMID:41634815 separates original-community metagenomics from follow-up SynCom5 perturbations. Preserve the existing SynCom5 membership gap and the table-backed fifteen strain codes; no mechanistic arrow is justified by correlation alone.
