A bounded non-sterile laboratory panel that compared mono-, co-, and sequential cultures of the screened phototrophs Chlorella sorokiniana, Euglena gracilis, Synechocystis sp., and Desertifilum tharense during dairy-wastewater treatment. The 12-day experiment grew four monocultures, four 1:1 dry-weight co-cultures, and four sequential cyanobacterium/microalga cultures in 50% diluted raw dairy wastewater in 500 mL bottles with 250 mL working volume. Samples were fractionated into phycosphere-attached and free-living bacteria for V3-V4 16S rRNA MiSeq profiling, with raw sequence data deposited under NCBI BioProject PRJNA1265442. This is a panel record: the four named taxa were assayed across the treatment bottles rather than all co-occurring in every bottle, and indigenous dairy-wastewater bacteria were intentionally retained by non-sterile sample handling.

Knowledge gaps & discussions (1)
KNOWLEDGE_GAP OPEN Which treatment-specific microbial interactions mediate dairy-wastewater removal and resource recovery?
This record describes12 mono-, co- and sequential-culture treatments, not all four phototrophs in one bottle. The data article provides endpoint16S profiles, FAPROTAX-predicted functions and CCA/RDA associations; these do not directly measure gene activity, exchanged flux or selective mediation. Related research PMID40946759 reports greater nutrient removal in sequential cultures and greater biomolecules/EPS in co-cultures, but only its abstract/highlights were reviewed. Full research Methods, treatment-specific partners, sequence timing and mediator evidence remain unresolved. Indigenous bacteria are retained without exact canonical identities. #1537 tracks new structure, including the required one-community Edison report and primary verification. A10945-character dry run exists; no provider submission or credits spent. Zero nodes/arrows is an unresolved graph gap, not evidence that interactions are absent.
