Microalgae-Cyanobacteria Bioactive Peptide Consortia

A bounded controlled-photobioreactor biomass panel comprising two marine microalgae-cyanobacteria consortia supplied by Microalgae Solutions S.L. for protein extraction, LC-MS/MS proteome identification, and Alcalase hydrolysis. Consortium C1 combined Chlorella vulgaris with Arthrospira platensis, while consortium C2 combined Kamptonema sp., Nannochloropsis oculata, Tetraselmis suecica, and Chlorella vulgaris. Both biomasses were grown in flat photobioreactors in modified Guillard F/2 medium, lyophilized, characterized for macromolecular composition, extracted at pH 10/pH 5, and hydrolyzed to evaluate release of antioxidant peptides.

Knowledge gaps & discussions (1)

KNOWLEDGE_GAP OPEN Which living-community interactions, if any, affect biomass production in C1 or C2?

The primary paper PMID:42188319 studies two separately produced, lyophilized biomasses: C1 is Chlorella/Arthrospira; C2 is Kamptonema/Nannochloropsis/Tetraselmis/Chlorella. Preserve this panel, not a five-member coculture. Protein extraction, commercial Alcalase hydrolysis and antioxidant assays are processing steps, not demonstrated ecological cross-feeding. In silico peptides are predictions, not measured exchanged products. Positive hydrolysate activity remains, including assay-dependent effects; phenolic compounds also contribute, and C1 ABTS activity decreases after hydrolysis despite increased ORAC. The empty graph is justified by this source, not evidence that no interaction exists. Complete main text, captions and embedded tables read; supplements, raw proteomics and cultivation patent not audited. #1610 documents this review without adding unsupported nodes or arrows; prior #952/#953 fixes remain intact.
