A two-member Pseudomonas sp./Acidovorax sp. synthetic microbial consortium, RF-PH, assembled from the aniline-degrading strains RF and PH isolated from heavily aniline-contaminated soil in a Dalian chemical industrial park. Pan et al. 2026 identified Pseudomonas and Acidovorax isolates by 16S rRNA sequencing, optimized their inoculation ratio in mineral-salts medium containing aniline, and designated a 3:1 RF:PH mixture as RF-PH after the consortium outperformed either monoculture in aniline shake-flask assays.

Ecological Interactions
The graph shows only explicitly linked interaction participants. Community members without an asserted participant link are omitted; membership alone does not imply an interaction.
RF-PH enhanced aniline degradation
The optimized 3:1 RF-PH consortium degraded 500 mg/L aniline more rapidly within 12 h than either single-strain culture, and also improved 12 h removal at 1000 mg/L aniline. These analytical removal outcomes do not by themselves establish complete mineralization, a catechol pathway or a directional metabolite exchange between strains.
Participating Taxa: Pseudomonas sp. RF, Acidovorax sp. PH

PMID:41900437 - SUPPORT (IN_VITRO)"For 500 mg·L−1 aniline, the degradation rate reached 91.28% within 12 h, representing an increase of 11.33% and 17.02% compared to the degradation rates achieved by strain RF or strain PH alone, respectively."

PMID:41900437 - SUPPORT (IN_VITRO)"For 1000 mg·L−1 aniline, the degradation rate reached 73.06% within 12 h, representing an increase of 18.25% and 28.04% compared to the degradation by strain RF or strain PH alone, respectively."
Knowledge gaps & discussions (2)
KNOWLEDGE_GAP OPEN Which molecular mechanisms, if any, connect Pseudomonas sp. RF and Acidovorax sp. PH to enhanced RF-PH aniline degradation?
Pan et al. 2026 reported that RF-PH outperformed either monoculture and proposed cooperative and complementary characteristics of the two strains, but did not experimentally identify a transferred intermediate or other directional pairwise mechanism.

KNOWLEDGE_GAP OPEN Does the analytical removal endpoint establish the asserted mineralization pathway?
The positive consortium-versus-monoculture comparisons remain supported. Main methods quantify residual aniline, while the conclusion asserts catechol-pathway mineralization without corresponding mechanistic results in the main text reviewed. Supplements were not inspected, so this is an evidence boundary rather than proof that no additional data exist. No transferred intermediate, competition or new arrow is inferred; the existing open-ended mechanism discussion is preserved.

For 500 mg·L−1 aniline, the degradation rate reached 91.28% within 12 h, representing an increase of 11.33% and 17.02% compared to the degradation rates achieved by strain RF or strain PH alone, respectively.
Supports the community-level enhancement of aniline degradation by RF-PH relative to either monoculture.
For 1000 mg·L−1 aniline, the degradation rate reached 73.06% within 12 h, representing an increase of 18.25% and 28.04% compared to the degradation by strain RF or strain PH alone, respectively.
Supports the RF-PH consortium's enhanced 1000 mg/L aniline degradation relative to either monoculture.
