A nine-isolate synthetic bacterial community discovered by cube-based screening of quinoa-associated isolates for Arabidopsis salt-stress growth promotion. Dangjarean et al. divided 135 quinoa isolates into five 3 x 3 x 3 cubes, treated each layer as a nine-isolate SynCom, and identified SynCom DY1 (SCDY1) as the 100 mM NaCl screening hit. SCDY1 combined Pseudomonas panipatensis-like isolate 82, Stenotrophomonas bentonitica-like isolate 85, Fictibacillus enclensis-like isolate 88, Novosphingobium subterraneum-like isolate 91, Herbaspirillum frisingense-like isolate 94, Acidovorax facilis-like isolate 97, Bacillus atrophaeus-like isolate 100, Priestia megaterium-like isolate 103, and Bacillus subtilis-like isolate 106.

Ecological Interactions
The graph shows only explicitly linked interaction participants. Community members without an asserted participant link are omitted; membership alone does not imply an interaction.
SCDY1 Arabidopsis salt-stress growth promotion
SCDY1 improved Arabidopsis root elongation and biomass under moderate sodium-chloride stress, with the clearest overall response at 120 mM NaCl. This is a host-growth outcome, not evidence of reciprocal fitness benefits to the plant and bacterial members.

Knowledge gaps & discussions (1)
KNOWLEDGE_GAP OPEN Does SCDY1 confer reciprocal fitness benefits, and which mechanisms mediate the plant-growth response?
The cited preprint abstract supports plant growth under salt stress and recovery of a subset of bacteria; recoverability alone does not establish bacterial benefit or unaffected fitness. Host transcriptional and root-hair responses are not demonstrated causal mediators. The complete preprint body was not retrieved in this review, so missing access is not evidence that additional controls are absent. The independently retrieved accepted journal abstract corroborates the endpoint, but does not supersede the historical preprint evidence. No COMMENSALISM substitution or previously removed recovery/epidermal node is added.
