CultureMech:000007 algae COMPLEX LIQUID
Original name: 1/3 Soil + Seawater Medium

Overview

External ontology
UTEX:one-third-soil-plus-seawater-medium (source link unavailable) — 1/3 Soil+Seawater Medium
Applications
  • Algae cultivation
  • Phytoplankton culture
  • Microalgae research
Notes
The source uses 67 mL Pasteurized Seawater and 133 mL dH2O per 200 mL liquid-input recipe; 1:2 is approximate shorthand, not exact volume fractions.

Ingredients (3)

# Ingredient Concentration Ontology Notes
1 Green House Soil The source fixes the soil dose at 1 tsp for its 200 mL recipe. Teaspoon size and soil density are not established; no mass or standardized volume conversion is asserted.
2 Pasteurized Seawater 335 ML_PER_L (per liter of the combined stated seawater and dH2O input volumes, before soil addition) ENVO:00002149
sea water
67 mL / 0.2 L combined stated liquid inputs = 335 mL/L of input liquids. This input-volume ratio is not asserted as a measured final-medium concentration.
3 dH2O
H2O 18.015 g/mol
665 ML_PER_L (per liter of the combined stated seawater and dH2O input volumes, before soil addition) CHEBI:15377
water
133 mL / 0.2 L combined stated liquid inputs = 665 mL/L of input liquids. This input-volume ratio is not asserted as a measured final-medium concentration.

Preparation

  1. Combine Green House Soil and Pasteurized Seawater with dH2O; add calcium carbonate only for the optional supplemented formulation.
  2. Cover the medium container and steam for two consecutive days, three hours on each day. Raise temperature gradually to approximately 95 C in 15 minutes, then just over 98 C for the three-hour duration. Cool gradually at room temperature.
  3. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours, then bring to room temperature before use.

The original fetcher read fixed column positions, so the row ordinal was stored as the ingredient name, the component name as the amount, and the Amount column was never read; concentration was then filled in as G_PER_L regardless.
