dental plaque

UBERON:0016482 ·resolve ·HOST_ASSOCIATED ·CLOSE REVIEWED

A soft, thin film of food debris, mucin, and dead epithelial cells deposited on the teeth, providing the medium for the growth of various bacteria. The main inorganic components are calcium and phosphorus, with small amounts of magnesium, potassium, and sodium; the organic matrix consists of polysaccharides, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and other components. Plaque plays an important etiologic role in the development of dental caries and periodontal and gingival diseases and provides the base for the development of materia alba; calcified plaque forms dental calculus. — UBERON

Taxa reported from this habitat, which is weaker than being characteristic of it. rank is out of pool: a high rank in a pool of thousands of near-tied scores is a weak claim. Entries corroborated by a second, independent source are listed first.

Curation

What a curator decided about this record, and why. A record built from several source concepts can carry one decision per concept.

  1. REVIEW 2026-08-14 · claude-opus-5

Reviewed and endorsed the seeder's own resolution. Narrowed-grounding review (#67): flagged because 'dental' is a word the source did not say, but BacDive's only other plaque source is Subgingival-plaque and both are oral. Dental plaque is the right reading; correct as seeded. (source concept habitatmech:BACDIVE.7a79dc66cb)
